Happy Times

We have known John for over 40 years, since the time we were invited to dinner at their house in Long Hanborough.  From the start we were entertained with his lively, often amusing conversation and also his ability to listen to our opinions and ideas.

Soon after he showed an interest in making up a quartet of musicians who met regularly at our house, Peter on the violin, Gordon on the flute, Mrs Gathercole on piano and John on the recorder.  Lots of fun and laughter as well as music!

We also made several trips to Stratford.  John could quote many lines from Shakespeare, although he said he preferred Racine!

Our trips to London with him to see art exhibitions were also memorable, not only for the discussions about the art, but also for all the laughs and chatter on the journeys to and from the capital, and at the meal which also often took place on these occasions.

Our numerous dinner parties which took place over the 40 years were peppered with John's witticisms, knowledge, and humour which we shall remember always.
