I met John at college in 1960 and soon became firm friends. As he was very knowledgeable and four years older I did tend to look up to him. Mind you, he wasn't always the ideal student. For example he was thrown out of the library on one occasion for causing a disturbance. Then there was the time when he got me to put on a scary mask and hide in Derek's cupboard. Then he asked Derek to open the cupboard door whereupon I leapt out shrieking and Derek screamed and ran out of the room. After four years John finished with a first class degree and a teaching certificate.
Twenty years ago five of us met at the then closed, and ready for destruction Marjons, Arthur found a way in and we explored the corridors, classrooms and lecture hall. Afterwards we all went across the road to The Bull for a nostalgic drink.
